Chapelton Beef Shorthorns are bred to work in real suckler systems. Our cattle are selected for fertility, calving ease, temperament, structure, longevity and the ability to perform efficiently on forage.

We run around 80 pedigree Beef Shorthorn cows and use Chapelton Shorthorn bulls are used across our own commercial cows. Their commercial progeny are monitored from birth through to breeding or slaughter, giving us practical feedback and data that directly informs our pedigree breeding decisions.
We performance record our Shorthorns on the Breedplan system as well as through our own recording system. We now calculate our own EBVs for important traits that are not included in the Breedplan analysis.
